The Challenge
Our Minds Matter (OMM) is a fast-growing nonprofit with an ambitious mission: to end teen suicide and transform mental health outcomes for youth nationwide. Founded in 2012 in Vienna, VA, demand for OMM’s programs has grown significantly in recent years. Because of this, they faced two pressing challenges:
- Securing transformational funding and strategic partnerships to sustain and scale impact on a national level.
- Professionalizing and strengthening the development function, providing “boots-on-the-ground” leadership support while simultaneously building internal infrastructure to support growth.
The RevUp Approach
RevUp partnered with OMM to address both their immediate leadership needs and their long-term growth goals. Our strategy combined both high-level relationship building with hands-on operational support.
1. Building Strategic Partnerships
RevUp designed and executed a plan to connect OMM with a network of well-positioned donors and champions. These connections were carefully cultivated to:
- Increase access to strategic philanthropic partners.
- Position OMM as a national leader worthy of multi-year investment.
Within just a few months, this effort generated three promising leads for transformational partnerships; a significant step toward OMM’s long-term sustainability.
2. Interim Leadership & Development Support
When OMM’s CEO went on parental leave, Cheryl Precious from RevUp stepped in as Fractional Chief Development Officer. In this role, Cheryl:
- Provided executive leadership and strategic guidance to the team.
- Oversaw the implementation of a new Salesforce CRM, ensuring a smooth migration from Network for Good.
- Continued cultivating major donor and partner relationships.
- Driving decision-making and mobilizing the board to support growth efforts.
3. Strengthening Operations for Growth
RevUp also supported OMM’s CEO and board in building a plan for sustained expansion by:
- Developing both short-term and medium-term hiring and staffing plans for the Development function.
- Contributing to long-term economic modeling and strategic planning.
- Participating as an active member of the executive leadership team.
The Results
In just a few short months, RevUp’s work with OMM produced measurable progress, including:
- Three active leads for transformational funding and strategic partnerships.
Successful CRM migration from Network for Good to Salesforce, improving donor management and reporting capacity. - Clear hiring and staffing roadmap to guide organizational growth.
- Continuity in leadership during a critical transition, ensuring no momentum was lost.
